I have known Stuart since my younger brother, Jerry, started school. He took hold of Jerry’s hand and told him he’d look after him, and from that day Stuart was such a frequent visitor to our home, that we dubbed him the ‘fifth brother’. In later life he attended all our special occasions in Leeds, first with his mother, and later with Joan. There are few family wedding photos without Stuart on them. Years later he also attended the funeral of our father at Lawnswood, where he was a comforting shoulder to cry on.
Life moved on, Stuart moved to Telford, but he never forgot us, and we are humbled by that.
Rest now, Stuart. You have suffered a long time with incredible fortitude to the very end. I am so sorry I was too poorly to attend your funeral, but we will visit the memorial garden whenever we go to Leeds, to say our goodbyes, and to remember you fondly.

I was very privileged to have known Stuart for over 14 years. We first became friends when I joined CMS in 2003 and continued to meet for a coffee and chat after we retired from the Bank in 2012. Being of a similar age I think we were on the same wave length. He had a great sense of humour and I enjoyed his many entertaining and amusing stories. I was very sad when he told me of his diagnosis but so humbled by his resilience and bravery in the days that followed. I will really miss my friend. x
